It was no coincidence that monks were already looking for healing plants in the Middle Ages or growing them in their own herb garden. From them, in the knowledgeable hand of the monastery pharmacist, came those mysterious mixtures that gave the sick brother or the sufferer in the pilgrim's house relief and new strength. As in the old days, the Frater distiller still prepares the legendary and world-famous "Ettal Monastery Liqueurs" from over 50 selected herbs.
We will show you our monastery distillery, introduce you to the secrets of the medicinal herbs in the “drug room” and let you enjoy the incomparability of these exquisite herbs and liqueurs with all your senses.
The production of beer, Bavaria's liquid bread, has an uninterrupted tradition in Ettal that is over 400 years old. In our brewery museum you can then experience the eventful and interesting history of beer brewing in Ettal using old documents and equipment.
