Description
The Inselhof was once a courtyard on the Achterwasser, which became a simple inn "Zum Achterwasser". In 1928 a capable East Frisian created a thriving inn and renamed it "Inselhof". Students from Berlin universities spent their summer holidays here and worked part of the day. In addition to doing housekeeping, the students learned how to spin wool and weave. The students worked in the stables and in the fields, making handicrafts from wood, amber and other materials. These works were exhibited in the colorful room and offered for sale. The Inselhof was already well known in Berlin.
Nobel cars came to the Inselhof in the 1930s - there were rumors of a love nest in the village, and there was talk of night-long parties with waitresses dressed in tulle. At the end of the thirties, Wernher von Braun and his colleagues came from Peenemünde to dine and celebrate in the Inselhof. He often moored his sailing boat at the hotel's own jetty. Even then, the Inselhof was a popular place to spend the evening with friends.
